David Beckham will become a knight.
İdman.biz reports with reference to The Sun that the former member of the England national team will be nominated for the title of knight bachelor.
After that, he will be called "Sir", and his wife Victoria will be called "Lady".
The official award ceremony will take place at the end of June.
Politicians and athletes have been proposing Beckham's candidacy for knighthood for years. This issue first came up in 2011 for his services in awarding the 2012 Olympics to London. However, like many stars, the former midfielder of the England national team was rejected due to his participation in a tax evasion scheme.
Beckham has also made a significant contribution to charity and cooperates with the Charles III Foundation. Last year, the king officially appointed him as an ambassador for philanthropy.
Beckham was awarded the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II in 2003 for his services to football and became an Officer of the Order (4th degree of the award). By being awarded the title of Knight Bachelor, he will also be called "Sir", even though his degree of the Order of the British Empire does not correspond to this.
