Legendary Manchester United player David Beckham has shared his thoughts on the performance of the team's interim manager, Michael Carrick. Since taking over "behind the wheel" in January, Carrick has won seven of his 10 matches, beginning to justify the leadership's trust.
Idman.Biz reports with reference to the "Mirror" publication that Beckham specifically emphasized the factor of "calmness" that Carrick brought to the club.
In his interview, he stated that such an atmosphere has not been felt at "Old Trafford" in the last 10 years:
"To be honest, the last few months have been more relaxed than the last 10 years. I have always liked Michael as a coach. There is a calmness, even a tenderness, I would say, in his demeanor on the sidelines - whether he is happy or angry. This is very important for a manager. The way he brings the team together is incredible. As a 'United' fan, I think this is exactly what we needed."
At the beginning of 2026, when Ruben Amorim was dismissed, Manchester United was in sixth place in the league table. Under Carrick's leadership, the team, which collected 23 out of a possible 30
points, has already risen to third place and is six points ahead of fifth-placed Liverpool.
The club's sporting director, Jason Wilcox, and executive director, Omar Berrada, have not yet started official negotiations with other candidates. Although the list includes names like Andoni Iraola from Bournemouth, Oliver Glasner from Crystal Palace, and former Marseille coach Roberto De Zerbi, Carrick is currently considered the main favorite.
Michael Carrick himself, avoiding answering questions about his future, stated that he is focusing on the remaining 7 games in the Premier League.
