FIFA is considering the possibility of excluding the current world champion, the Argentine national team, from the 2026 World Cup. Sport24.az reports that this was reported by the publication "La Nacion".
It is reported that this is due to a corruption scandal surrounding the leadership of the Argentine Football Association and the interference of state bodies in the internal affairs of the federation.
As part of the investigation, searches were carried out in the offices of the federation president, Claudio Tapia, and other officials on suspicion of illegally accumulating wealth. The involvement of "Sur Finanzas", the national team's sponsor, in financial fraud is also being investigated.
It should be noted that FIFA is currently awaiting a decision from the local court. If the officials are found guilty, Argentina will be excluded from the World Cup, which will be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
