A rare football story: Guillermo Hoyos is working with Lionel Messi again, 23 years after their first encounters at Barcelona.
According to Lent.az, citing foreign media, in 2003, when Messi was only 16 years old, Hoyos said: "I played with Diego, and Lionel is the player I see closest to him. He will be like Maradona."
In the picture below, Messi, already one of Barcelona's leading players, is with Hoyos.
At that time, Hoyos coached the youth team in Catalonia and was one of the first to see in Messi not only talent but also a player of historical level. Now their paths have crossed again, this time at Inter Miami, where Hoyos joined the coaching staff after changes in the club's structure.
The coach himself does not hide his emotions: he calls working with Messi a "blessing."
