"The important thing was not to lose. And we managed to do that. Sport24.az reports that these words were said by Azerbaijani national team footballer Ceyhun Nuriyev in a statement to journalists.
The midfielder shared his thoughts on the EURO-2026 qualifying match with Ukraine, which they drew (1:1):
"A lot has changed in the team in a short time. There was a change of head coach. New players were brought into the squad. Aykhan Abbasov came. It was very difficult to recover after the heavy defeat in Iceland. But we were able to recover and get a well-deserved point".
Nuriyev said that after the match, interim head coach Aykhan Abbasov congratulated them: "He believed in all the players. We also lived up to their expectations".
It should be noted that the Azerbaijani national team lost to Iceland with five unanswered goals on September 5.
