In the Netherlands, over 170,000 people have signed a petition calling for a boycott of the 2026 World Cup.
İdman.Biz reports that this initiative was launched in protest against Donald Trump's policies. It is worth recalling that the World Cup will be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
The author of the petition, journalist Teun van de Keuken, explained this decision as follows:
"We do not want our players to indirectly support Trump's harsh policies against innocent migrants by participating in the tournament. Participating in a sporting event as if nothing happened legitimizes his policies. By participating in the World Cup, we are making the wrong decisions".
It was noted that the petition was submitted to the lower house of parliament, the supreme legislative body of the Netherlands.
