The score was opened in the 28th minute by Borussia midfielder Daniel Svensson. In the second half, midfielder Karni Chukwuemeka increased his team's advantage in the 50th minute. The guests reduced the difference in the score in the 61st minute with a goal from striker Gorka Guruzeta. In the 82nd minute, the home team's striker Seru Girassi scored, and in added time, winger Julian Brandt brought the score to 4:1.
In the first round of the Champions League, the German club drew 4:4 with Juventus, while Athletic lost 2:0 to London Arsenal.
Athletic will face Qarabag in the next round. The game will be held in Bilbao on October 22.
