"Beşiktaş", who faced "Antalyaspor" in the last round of the Turkish Super League, commemorated their former head coach Mircea Lucescu, who recently passed away, with special respect. Sport24.az reports that the "black and whites" came out for warm-up exercises before the match in special jerseys with Lucescu's photo and a banner that read "We will never forget you, the champion of the century..."
This gesture was met with great appreciation by fans both in the stadium and in front of the screens.
The head coach of the Istanbul giant, Sergen Yalçın, also did not hide his sadness in his statement before the game:
"We lost a person we valued very much, who won championships with both "Galatasaray" and "Beşiktaş". He always took care of me and treated me like a father. The football world has lost a very great figure. I wish his family patience. Unfortunately, life ends for everyone somewhere."
Mircea Lucescu made his name in the club's history in golden letters by making "Beşiktaş" champion in 2003 - the club's 100th anniversary.
