Rui Costa, president of the Portuguese football club "Benfica", has been summoned to court in connection with a cash transfer of 76,000 euros he received from the Russian club "Lokomotiv".
Idman.biz reports that this was announced by "CNN Portugal".
It is reported that the issue concerns the financial settlement transferred during the transfer of Argentine defender German Conti to "Lokomotiv" in 2023. This transaction is reported to be contrary to the European Union's sanctions against Russia.
Rui Costa was scheduled to testify in July, but he requested that the date of the meeting be postponed.
The transfer was discovered by the bank, after which the prosecutor's office ordered the operation to be suspended. By the decision of the Central Criminal Investigation and Prosecution Department, the funds were returned to the account of the sports joint-stock company belonging to "Lokomotiv", the sender of the funds.
