Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny has revealed how Hans-Dieter Flick, the head coach of the Catalan club, allows him to smoke.
Idman.Biz reports that in 2015, while playing for Arsenal in London, the goalkeeper had problems because of his habit. He was smoking in the shower after losing 2-0 to Southampton, after which head coach Arsene Wenger removed him from the starting lineup and soon sent him on loan to Roma.
"The coach and I were in the sauna recently and I asked him what he thought about it (Szczęsny's smoking). The coach replied that what I do on the field is what matters. If you are a super professional, you can even smoke during the awards ceremony," said Szczęsny.
It should be noted that Szczęsny ended his career in August 2024, but continued his career in October by joining the Catalan club. He has played nine games this season and conceded 17 goals.
