The Labor Inspectorate of the Catalonia region of Spain has discovered the involvement of 79 illegal workers, mainly Turkish citizens, during the renovation of the "Camp Nou" stadium.
Idman.Biz reports that the inspectors have imposed a fine of 1.09 million euros (2.15 million AZN) on the subcontractor "Extreme Works" for employing workers without work permits.
This fine significantly increases the number of fines imposed on the "Camp Nou" complex since the reconstruction work began in June 2023. Previously, subcontractors had already been fined and sanctioned hundreds of thousands of euros for violations such as illegal labor, illegal working conditions, exceeding working hours, and so on.
It is noted that a total of 218 administrative proceedings have been initiated in connection with such violations.
Thus, the scandal surrounding the "Barça" stadium renovation is not only about construction quality and delays. Now the club's name is also associated with cases of worker rights violations and exploitation of migrants.
It is recalled that "Barcelona" has been facing a serious financial crisis in recent years, and the club is saving every euro it can to make new transfers.
