Ayxan Abbasov: We want to win against Sierra Leone with the support of the fans

The Azerbaijani national football team wants to defeat the Sierra Leone team with the support of the fans.

According to "Report", the team's head coach Aykhan Abbasov stated this at a press conference.

The specialist shared his thoughts on the game against the Sierra Leone team in the "FIFA Series – 2026" international tournament:

"We will play our second game in the tournament. It is the opponent's first match. They have advantages here. Nevertheless, we are playing at home. We want to win with the support of our fans. It's a different opponent. They are ahead of us in terms of ranking. We have analyzed their last games. They have come with an optimal squad.

There should be a difference in a good way from game to game. We have one gathering left. I believe that it will be different from the seriousness and desire in the first game. The opponent demands it. We are ready for tomorrow's match."

A.Abbasov said that the team will face an African representative for the first time in its history: "If I'm not mistaken, our national team is facing an African representative for the first time. We have not faced a team from this continent before. This will also be new. It is good to play against unfamiliar opponents, it will be a change for the players.

The opponent may be superior to us in the ranking. They don't get these points for nothing. They have defenders playing in the French League 1, they are technical. We are expecting a good game."

The head coach also added that there will be changes in the squad: "There is a need for this. Some changes are expected. We don't want there to be a 1st and 2nd squad in the national team. Because everyone must be ready. The best are here. We will also think about the squad according to the opponent."

According to him, winning in the national team is a great joy for the coach: "It is every coach's dream to win in the national team. A second consecutive victory would be a great motivation for the players and coaches. We want to have good statistics by the end of the year. The opponents also allow it, friendly matches and opponents in the group allow us to fight well. This could be our best year."
