"Report" reports that Aykhan Abbasov, the head coach of the Azerbaijani national football team, said this at a press conference after the match against Ukraine in the qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup.
The specialist commented on the match they lost:
"We knew it would be a tense game. Our players were tired. Our players showed character. I thank each of them. It was not easy to play against big teams in three days. We wanted our players to be confident and comfortable. They showed it today. Maybe we should have won a point. The first 10-15 minutes of the match were very difficult. They wanted to win. If Nariman Akhundzade had valued the goal episode, maybe it would have been different. We look to the future with optimism, this team has potential. If there is spirit and desire, the result will come. We have 2 games at home. We will prepare for those matches. We will try to increase the number of our points."
