Aykhan Abbasov will not lead the Azerbaijan national team, consisting of football players under 21 years old, against the Bulgarian national team in the European Championship qualifying match as the head coach.
Idman.biz, referring to Sportnet.az, reports that this is due to the fact that the 44-year-old specialist will be at the helm of the main national team in the qualifying match for the 2026 World Cup against Ukraine.
The meeting with Bulgaria will start on September 9 at 18:00, and the match with Ukraine will start at 20:00. The games will take place at "Dalga Arena" and the Tofig Bahramov Republican Stadium, respectively. For this reason, it is physically impossible for Abbasov to field both teams.
According to Sportnet.az, the AFFA press service reported that Abbasov's assistant Elnur Chodarov will lead the U-21 team to the match against Bulgaria.
It should be noted that today the ways parted with the head coach of the Azerbaijani national team, Fernandu Santush. The contract between the AFFA leadership and the Portuguese specialist was terminated by mutual agreement.
