After 8 years, "Qarabağ" qualified for the main tournament of the Champions League for the second time in the history of Azerbaijani football.
Idman.biz reports with reference to Haqqin.az that after literally a few days, admiration was replaced by anger, as well as insults addressed to the club's management.
The reason for this was the failure to strengthen the attack in the last days before the closure of the transfer window. The fans hoped that the club would have time to buy at least one striker for the Champions League. Until the last moment, "Qarabağ" had several options for buying or renting a forward, but this did not happen. At the same time, although the Aghdam club made many transfer deals in the summer, it could not strengthen the attack.
As a result, only three nominal forwards were included in "Qarabağ"'s final application for the Champions League: Nariman Akhundzade, Musa Gurbanli and Emmanuel Addai. After that, an unprecedented attack was launched on the club on social networks. The fans accused the Aghdam people of stinginess. Many write that "Qarabağ" has already received about 24 million euros in revenue in the Champions League, as well as 5 million manats from the Reserve Fund of the President of Azerbaijan, and in their opinion, "the club does not want to spend money on football players, condemning itself to disgrace in the upcoming games against very serious rivals."
Today, the president of "Qarabağ", Tahir Gozal, was asked a question on this topic. "We have created all conditions for the transfer of head coach Gurban Gurbanov," the head of the Aghdam club answered.
"But clubs don't want to let go of football players. The price of a football player is 1 million euros, and they want, for example, 8 million for him. Gurban Gurbanov wants to play more successfully than anyone in the Champions League. But such transfers can simply destroy the club, spoil the atmosphere within the team. Buying a football player is not like buying a car. This is a complex process. We did everything to buy a striker, but it didn't work out. We will play with the forces we have. We will do everything possible. The main thing for us is unity," Gozal said.
