The Azerbaijan Student Football Federation (ATFF) wants teams from regional universities to participate in the championship it organizes.
This was stated by ATFF Secretary General Latif Novruz in his statement to "Report".
Evaluating the 2024/2025 season that ended in the Azerbaijan Student League, the official said that they are preparing a team to participate in the international competition:
"We left the season behind in the Azerbaijan Student League. The name of the winning team became clear. We have been holding the competition at the league level for the last two years. 12 teams were represented in the championship. The best football players in their squads will be determined and after the selection, a national team consisting of students will be organized. An international competition among students will be held in July and our team will try to represent Azerbaijan properly there. Approximately 25 teams will compete in the competition, divided into groups."
Latif Novruzov, the former head of the AFFA press service, said that organizing football competitions among students is not easy:
"Organizing such competitions is very difficult. Because the teams are made up of amateur football players, some come to the games and some don't. This is also a matter of time. I just do these things because I love football. I have worked at AFFA for many years. Due to my age and experience, I know how such competitions are held. Thankfully, the AFFA management also supports our ideas and provides us with referees during the games."
He emphasized that they would like regional teams to be represented in the Azerbaijan Student League:
"We would like the competition to cover not only the capital Baku, but also the regions. For example, it would be very nice if the universities in Ganja were also represented in the competition. But for this, money is needed so that they can come to the meetings every week."
It should be noted that the teams of the Azerbaijan Sports Academy (ASA) and the Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) faced each other in the final match of the Student League. The match ended with ASA's 4:0 victory.
With this result, ASA became the winner of the Azerbaijan Student League for the second time in a row.
