"I cannot say the reason for the long winless streak. The last time, under my leadership, we defeated Kazakhstan 3:2 in a friendly match." These words were said by Arif Asadov, the former coach of the national team, in his statement to Sport24.az.
The experienced expert evaluated the chances of the Azerbaijan national team in the "FIFA Series - 2026" international tournament:
"After me, Fernandu Santuş led the team, and I evaluate this as the most unsuccessful period of the team. Currently, positive changes are felt in the national team with Aykhan muallim. In the upcoming games, this series will probably be broken. The football players invited to the country's main team are the selection of Aykhan Abbasov. I guess he has his own strategic approach to these matches. The doors of the national team are open for every football player. If we are talking about friendly games, everyone can be given a chance. Aykhan Abbasov's view is important here."
It should be noted that the Azerbaijan national team will face Saint Lucia on March 27 and Sierra Leone on March 30. Both games will be held at the Mehdi Huseynzade Sumgayit City Stadium and will start at 19:00.
