"We will play our first game and we must take into account that our group is difficult." These words were said to Sport24.az by Arif Asadov, the former coach of the Azerbaijani national team.
The experienced specialist shared his thoughts on the DÇ-2026 qualifying round match that the national team will play against Iceland away:
"We have faced teams with different playing styles. Iceland also displays a different playing style. They prefer more athletic football. Dual fights are their positive aspects. They are dangerous in standard situations, they play well on long aerial balls. Therefore, our national team should be more careful. I think that the coaching staff has analyzed the opponent well, the advantages and disadvantages will be taken into account."
A. Asadov also touched upon the national team's chances of winning points away: "Although it is difficult, it is possible. There is nothing impossible. It is just important not to concede a goal in the first minutes. To get into the rhythm of the match and return with a point, it will also be necessary to score a goal. I wish our team success. I hope they will return from the trip with at least one point."
It should be noted that the Iceland-Azerbaijan match, which will be held on September 5, will start at 22:45 Baku time.
