Argentina faced Ecuador in the 2026 World Cup qualifying round and lost by a minimal score of 0:1. Sport24.az reports that the match took place at the "Banco Pichincha" stadium in Guayaquil.
Argentina was reduced to 10 men when Nicolas Otamendi received a red card in the 31st minute. Ecuadorian striker Enner Valencia opened the scoring in the 13th minute of added time in the first half. At the beginning of the second half, midfielder Moises Caicedo received a second yellow card, leaving the home side with a man down as well.
Argentine striker Lionel Messi did not appear in this match.
It should be noted that the Argentines finished the qualifying round in the South American zone in first place with 38 points. The Ecuadorians, however, finished second with 29 points.
