Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa has responded to statements by former Barcelona president Joan Gaspart, who claimed that the club and its president Florentino Perez caused great damage to football during the "Negreira case."
Idman.Biz recalls that in 2023, "Blaugrana" was accused of bribing Jose Maria Negreira, the former vice president of the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA), who worked at the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) in payments.
"Regarding the Negreira case, I don't think anyone understands that the biggest scandal in Spanish football is still unresolved. I think this should worry many people," AS quoted Arbeloa as saying.
Barcelona was accused of making the aforementioned payments between 2001 and 2018, paying approximately 8.4 million euros.
According to the Catalan club, Negreira was hired as an external consultant to prepare technical reports on refereeing. The former CTA vice president denies accepting bribes to influence referees.
