"Araz-Naxçıvan" football club has officially denied reports of financial or organizational problems that have emerged against the backdrop of rumors circulating around the management.
This was reported to Idman.Biz by the club's press service.
"On the eve of the 20th round of the national championship, we have only one problem - squad losses. Due to injuries, Urfan Abbasov and Frenchman Issouf Paro will not be able to help the team. In addition, Patrick Andrade will miss the match against Sumgayit due to exceeding the yellow card limit. The club has no other problems, and there is still enough time to pay salaries," the press service said.
It should be noted that this statement was made against the background of high-profile criminal cases. Thus, Zaur Akhundov, the president of the Nakhchivan Football Federation and the Azerbaijan Futsal Federation, is currently under house arrest. The Main Department for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General's Office has charged him under Article 179.4 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan (embezzlement or squandering on a particularly large scale).
At the same time, his brother, Ramin Akhundov, the head of the Araz-Nakhchivan club, has been put on the wanted list in connection with a criminal case related to the smuggling of tobacco products.
