"I said in advance that I would play whether I was president or not."
This was stated by Rahid Amirguliyev, the president of "Shahdag Gusar", who is competing in the 1st League.
The former football player of the Azerbaijani national team spoke about his appearance in the match against "Shafa" yesterday.
"To be honest, I didn't think about becoming president. It just happened for certain reasons. I want to help the team. That's why I said in advance that I would continue as a football player. I couldn't play due to injury. I had surgery on my knee. I have been training with the team for two or three weeks now," he said in a statement to offsideplus.az.
Amirguliyev explained the reason for taking this step in the match with "Shafa" as follows:
"This is just a coincidence. Last year, we had serious competition with "Shafa" for the championship. But this does not mean that we have any principles. I returned from injury, I had to play to get in shape, and this coincided with this match. There can be no question of any principle. In fact, the coach had no idea of playing me. But in the last minutes, I had to enter the game because our football player was injured."
It should be noted that the match ended with "Shafa" winning 2:0. "Shahdag Gusar" is in seventh place in the tournament table with 10 points. "Shafa" continues to lead with 23 points.
