"Our country has strong football refereeing traditions. Carrying this baton is a responsible job. My other young referees and I are trying to preserve the refereeing traditions."
Sport24.az reports that this was said by Azerbaijani FIFA referee Aliyar Aghayev, who was a guest on "Idman TV"'s "Sportcast" program.
Aliyar Aghayev gave interesting information about choosing the profession of football refereeing and the interesting games he has managed during his career.
Aliyar Aghayev stated that his father was also a football referee.
"That's right, he was a linesman, not a main referee like me. In my youth, I wanted to be a football player, not a referee. I even played for a few years. But I had to take a break due to injury, but the period lasted a long time and my age did not allow me to play football."
The referee said that he chose this profession because he saw refereeing as the only way to stay in football.
