"Our country has strong football refereeing traditions. Carrying this baton is a responsible job. My young referees and I are trying to preserve the refereeing traditions."
Idman.biz reports that this was said by Azerbaijani FIFA referee Aliyar Agayev, who was a guest on "Idman TV"'s "Sportcast" program.
Aliyar Agayev gave interesting information about his choice of football refereeing profession and the interesting games he has managed during his career.
Aliyar Agayev stated that his father was also a football referee.
"That's right, he was a linesman, not a main referee like me. In my youth, I wanted to be a football player, not a referee. I even played for a few years. But I had to take a break due to an injury, but the period was long and my age did not allow me to play football."
The referee said that he chose this profession because he saw refereeing as the only way to stay in football.
