Former coach of the Ukrainian youth national team, current director of the Kyiv "Dynamo" Academy, Aleksandr Ishchenko, shared his thoughts on the start of the 2026 World Cup qualifying round and the match against Azerbaijan, which will be held in Baku on September 9.
According to Idman.biz, the expert noted that despite Azerbaijan's defeat to Iceland (0:5), the home team will be completely different in the match against Ukraine.
"I don't think it will be easier for our team than the game against France. In Baku, the home team will have great support from the fans. Only the first round is behind us, and every team hopes to get out of the group. After the 0:5 defeat to Iceland, they will be a different team in the match against Ukraine. The game will be difficult," - dynamo.kiev quotes Ishchenko.
Ishchenko emphasized that the Ukrainian national team must definitely score points:
"We must defeat both Azerbaijan and Iceland. We need to hope for a positive result in games against these opponents."
It should be noted that the Azerbaijan-Ukraine match will be held on September 9 at the Tofig Bahramov Republican Stadium. The game starts at 20:00.
