"The players in the national team do not believe in themselves."
Idman.biz reports that these words were said by the former member of the Azerbaijani national team, Aleksandr Chertoganov, in his statement to apasport.az.
The former member of the national team spoke about the team's unsuccessful performance: "I don't even know why it doesn't work in the national team, I don't understand. Of course, it is not good to record constant unsuccessful results. It is obvious that something needs to be changed in the team. Probably, the players in the national team do not believe in themselves."
Chertoganov also commented on the national team's game against Latvia: "Latvia is not a weak team at all. They have always been a good, strong team. It is still like that now. Azerbaijan and Latvia are teams of equal strength."
The veteran football player said that the national team's match against France in the qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup will be difficult: "Everything is interconnected, and it seems that one of the main problems in the team is the psychological state. Lack of confidence is the worst thing in football. The team needs to be supported in order to achieve successful results."
It should be noted that Ukrainian Chertoganov wore the uniform of the Azerbaijani national team in 52 matches in 2006-2013.
