"Our national team performed confidently against Iceland and France. They were not afraid, they did not hesitate. We can see that the team is mainly made up of young players." These words were said by Afran Ismayilov, the former football player of the national team, in his statement to Sport24.az.
The veteran football player shared his thoughts on our team's match against France in the qualifying round of WC-2026:
"Mustafa Ahmadzadeh's entry into the field in the game against France, Rahman Dashdamirov's good performance in defense on the left of the "5", are positive moments. After Aykhan Abbasov's arrival, the team gained desire. There is no need to talk about France's strength. Iceland played much more comfortably than us. As Aykhan muellim solves tactical and technical problems, we will see a better Azerbaijani national team. We have seen coaches like Gianni De Biasi and Fernando Santos. We must continue with Aykhan Abbasov. He was able to change the atmosphere in the team. There are young football players in the team. They will gain experience over time. A local expert should have been appointed a long time ago. Thankfully, even though it was late, the right decision was made."
It should be noted that the Azerbaijan - France match ended with a 3:1 victory for the visitors.
