Footballers of the Azerbaijani national team must set demands for themselves.
The "Report" employee dispatched to Reykjavik reports that this was stated by AFFA Secretary General Jahangir Farajullayev in a statement to journalists.
He spoke about the qualifying match of the 2026 World Cup against the Icelandic national team to be held today:
"The motivation of the national team members is high. We want to start the qualifying stage with a good result.
The AFFA official emphasized that the national team's departure for the trip 3 days before the game was the initiative of head coach Fernando Santos:
"We had a conversation with the head coach. He stated that footballers should go on a trip a little earlier to be better motivated. And we found it acceptable. We have no demands on the team. I think footballers should set demands for themselves."
J. Farajullayev said that AFFA President Rovshan Najaf met with the national team members:
"A meeting was held between the AFFA President and the national team members. During the meeting, the management was interested in the problems of the football players. It was an internal team meeting."
It should be noted that the Iceland-Azerbaijan match, which will take place on September 5, will start at 22:45 Baku time.
