"The results of the Azerbaijani national teams in the younger age groups in football were not successful last year."
These words were said by Jahangir Hasanzadeh, Technical Director of AFFA.
He stated that he regretted the unsuccessful results.
"But there are reasons for this: the current state of the players, their low level of preparation in the leagues, the approach process and the strength of the opponents. I do not associate this with the legionnaire limit. This rule applies to players playing in the Premier League and the U-21 national team. But one of the solutions to the problems I mentioned earlier is for local players to set foot in Europe. This will affect development. As for the work of the coaches, I am generally satisfied with their approach, control, and selection. Yes, there were shortcomings. But in general, I do not doubt their potential. We just couldn't get results," he said in a statement to AZERTAC.
The expert said that the contract period with the head coaches of the youth teams has expired:
"Of course, the coaches themselves were consulted on this issue and relevant information was provided. Their contracts have expired and negotiations will be held next week regarding the next steps. I will submit my recommendations to the Executive Committee. They will make the final decision."
It should be noted that Elkhan Abdullayev led the U-19 national team, Ilham Yadullayev led the U-18 team, and Agil Nabiyev led the U-17 team in the last qualifying round. The contracts of all three experts expired at the end of 2025.
