The minutes added to the end of each half will be increased in the matches of the 2025-2026 season of the Bundesliga, which will start on August 22.
Lent.az reports that, according to the new decision, time loss in matches will now be calculated more accurately and added to the end of each half. The new rule has already been implemented in the second and third leagues. As a result, it has been observed that the time added to the end of each half has increased significantly in the games of those leagues.
Knut Kircher, head of the referee committee of the German Football Association (DFB), said that this increase will also be observed in Bundesliga games. He noted that the average time the ball is in play is currently up to 60 minutes, and the time will increase.
Time loss in matches is calculated by the referee in the VAR room and passed on to the chief referee of the match. More accurate calculation of lost time and its addition to the end of each half was tested at the 2022 World Cup. Since then, this system has also been implemented in the English Premier League.
