Seven players from the Eritrean national team have gone missing after an away match against Eswatini in the qualifying round for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
According to Lent.az, citing foreign media, the match took place on March 31 in South Africa and ended with a 2-1 victory for Eritrea. After the game, seven Eritrean players did not return home, and their whereabouts are currently unknown.
The names of the missing players have not been released. It has been clarified that they all play for Eritrean clubs.
The Eritrean national team has not played any matches, including friendlies, since 2019. The team returned to the international arena in the spring of 2026. The team is currently ranked 184th in the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) rankings.
