Spanish prosecutors have requested a 21-month prison sentence for a Sevilla fan who hurled racist insults at Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior in 2023.
İdman.Biz reports that, in addition to the prison sentence, the prosecution is also demanding a two-year ban on the individual entering stadiums. This is seen as another strong step in the fight against racism in Spanish football.
If the court finds the fan guilty, it will be the ninth verdict related to racism in La Liga history. Interestingly, Vinicius Junior has already participated in similar court cases as the victim three times.
It should be noted that, according to Spanish law, prison sentences of up to two years for non-violent crimes are usually suspended if the person has no prior convictions. However, additional sanctions such as stadium bans and participation in special anti-racism training programs remain in effect.
