An 18-year record has been repeated in the semifinal stage of the Bizon Azerbaijan Cup.
Idman.Biz reports with reference to the Professional Football League that the first games of the semifinals were memorable with three of the four teams scoring two goals.
In the match "Qarabağ" - "Sabah" (2:2), both teams scored twice, and in the match "Turan Tovuz" - "Zira" (0:2), the guests distinguished themselves twice.
For the third time in the history of the national cup, at least three teams have scored two or more goals in the first semifinal matches. The last time such productivity was recorded 18 years ago. In the 2007/2008 season, only one team scored less than two goals in the pairs "Gabala" - "Khazar-Lankaran" (1:3) and "Neftchi" - "Inter" (2:2).
A similar event occurred in the 1994/1995 season. In the matches "Neftchi" - "Khazri" (2:1) and "Kapaz" - "Kur-Nur" (3:3), three teams showed productivity.
In total, six goals were scored in two games, and the average productivity was 3.00. For the ninth time in the history of the Azerbaijan Cup, this figure has been three or higher in the first matches of the 1/2 final.
The absolute record belongs to the 1994/1995 season. Nine goals were scored in the matches "Neftchi" - "Khazri" (2:1) and "Kapaz" - "Kur-Nur" (3:3), and the average score was 4.50. Eight goals were recorded in the 2007/2008 and 2008/2009 seasons, and seven in the 2023/2024 season. In the 1997/1998, 2015/2016, 2016/2017 and 2022/2023 seasons, the first games ended with six goals, as it is now.
