The Boxing World Cup held in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, has come to an end. Sport24.az reports that the Azerbaijani national team achieved a historical result in the competition, which was attended by 400 athletes from 49 countries. Our team won 3 gold and 1 bronze medals for the first time at the World Cup.
In the final, Subhan Mammadov (50 kg) fought Issam Bensayara (Morocco). Our boxer, who finished all 3 rounds in his favor, won with a score of 5:0 (30:27, 30:27, 29:28, 29:28, 30:27) and won a gold medal.
Following him, Muhammad Abdullayev (+90 kg) also climbed to the highest step of the podium. He showed his strength to David Chaloyan (Armenia) in the decisive match. Abdullayev, who defeated his opponent with a score of 3:2 (29:28, 28:29, 28:29, 29:28, 29:28), formalized the third gold medal of our team and sang the Azerbaijani anthem for the third time in Brazil.
In the first session of the final stage, Saidjamshid Jafarov (75 kg) became the winner of the World Cup, and earlier Nabi Iskandarov (70 kg) won a bronze medal.
Thus, our men's national team, which won 3 gold and 1 bronze medals, finished the World Cup in second place in the team standings. Our team, which participated in the competition with 6 male boxers, was only surpassed by the hosts in terms of silver medals.
It should be noted that our boxers will return to their homeland on April 29.
