The Scottish Football Association (SFA) has announced on its official website the appointment of Sebastian Pokonyoli as the new coach of the Scottish national team.
Sports.Biz reports that the specialist has signed a two-year contract with the SFA.
"As soon as I heard about the SFA's interest, I was immediately excited about this opportunity. Scottish fans are known for their passion - as seen at the recent World Cup in the USA - and I experienced it firsthand as a player for Belgium in 2013. Along with my coaching staff, I will do my best to provide them with a team to be proud of and build on the successes already achieved by my predecessor.
From the beginning of the negotiations, I asked many questions and explored areas where we can improve. I'm very excited about this prospect and look forward to working with the players to achieve even greater success. With only a short time left before the first training session, we will dedicate the coming weeks to preparing for the UEFA Nations League and refining these plans in our training sessions next month," Pokonyoli said, according to the SFA press service.
Pokonyoli's resume includes the Belgian U18 national team, "Union Saint-Gillois", and "Monaco". In the new season of the UEFA Nations League, the Scots will play in group B1 against Switzerland, Slovenia, and North Macedonia.
