The beach wrestling season has started in Da Nang, Vietnam. According to Sport24.az, 4 wrestlers represented our country under the leadership of head coach Oyan Nazariani in the first stage of the World Series held over the weekend.
Our national team returns from Vietnam with 1 set of medals.
Ashraf Ashirov's (90 kg) debut in beach wrestling was successful. Our compatriot, who showed the maximum result in the group stage, defeated Greek Mikhail Akritidis in the semi-final and Georgian Iuza Tsertsvadze in the final with a score of 3:1 and became the champion.
Sahib Dadashov (80 kg) qualified for the semi-finals as the 2nd in the group. He did not give a chance to Frenchman Hugo Kueno in the semi-final – 3:0. Dadashov, who lost to Georgian Luka Chkhitunidze in the final with a minimal difference (1:2), won a silver medal.
Rubail Ibrahimli (70 kg) also qualified for the semi-finals as the second in the group. Our wrestler lost to Russian Konstantin Topshinoev 0:1 one step away from the final, but defeated Frenchman Quentin Sticker (2:1) and rose to the 3rd step of the podium.
Our national team, represented in three of the four weight categories, scored 60 points and took 3rd place in the team standings after Georgia (71) and Ukraine (65).
