The opening ceremony of the "President's Cup-2025" regatta in rowing, dedicated to the 102nd anniversary of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, has been held.
Idman.biz reports with reference to AZERTAC that the event held in Sugovushan, a beautiful corner of Karabakh, began with the sounding of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Then the memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the Motherland was commemorated with a minute of silence.
Farhad Aliyev, Secretary General of the Azerbaijan Rowing and Canoe Federation (ARCF), noted that the interest in the tournament from foreign countries is growing day by day, and this is gratifying.
The President of the European Canoe Association (ECA), Jan Zungrana, emphasized that rowing has developed significantly in Azerbaijan in recent years. He thanked ARCF for their hospitality and sincere welcome.
Recalling that the regatta has been held in Sugovushan for the 5th year already, the Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov said that the organization is improving year by year. The Minister expressed his belief that the athletes will enjoy the competition.
After the official speeches, the tournament was declared open.
It should be noted that more than 200 athletes from more than 20 countries are participating in the "President's Cup-2025" international regatta. The competition, which will start today in Sugovushan, will continue on May 1-2 at the Mingachevir "Kur" Olympic Training and Sports Center. Here, the teams will test their strength in different distances in the kayak, canoe and academic types of rowing.
On May 2, the closing ceremony of the regatta will be held in front of the Mingachevir "Kur" Olympic Training and Sports Center. At the closing ceremony, the winners will be awarded first. Cups for kayak-canoe and academic rowing will be presented to their owners. The regatta will traditionally end with fireworks.
The "President's Cup" regatta has been included in the official calendar plan of the European Canoe Association (ECA) for the third year in a row.
