Olympic champion in rhythmic gymnastics Darya Varfolomeyeva won three gold and one silver medal at the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup in Baku. The German athlete won in exercises with the ball, clubs and ribbon, and took second place in the all-around.
Varfolomeyeva shared her impressions of her next visit to the capital of Azerbaijan and her future plans with Idman.Biz.
- The tournament turned out to be very successful for you. Were you focused on the maximum result?
- I am glad to be back in Baku. In front of the audience, I demonstrated programs that I will further improve during the season. I understand that there are points I need to work on and I know where I need to increase. In the next competitions, I will polish the compositions even more.
- What was your initial goal for your trip to Baku?
- I was thinking more not about medals, but about my performance pleasing both my coach and myself. The main goal was to see our current level. I think the overall picture is already clear.
- Were you satisfied with the result?
- Yes, everything is normal. It was very nice to go to the carpet in front of the Baku audience, to see the National Gymnastics Arena again. It is a great pleasure to demonstrate your skills here.
- Gymnasts are often asked about their favorite apparatus. How would you answer?
- In every performance I try to show something interesting and I love all the programs. Each composition is unique, so I cannot single out one in particular.
- The European Cup will be held in Baku at the end of next week. Will you participate there?
- Unfortunately, I will miss this tournament. After the World Cup stages, I will focus on preparing for the European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships, which will be held in Varna at the end of May.
- Do you think that competition in rhythmic gymnastics has increased in recent years?
- Undoubtedly, every tournament is held in an intense competitive environment. It is not easy to win, but first of all it is important to perform the programs cleanly. It is necessary to develop from start to start, to work on stability. Of course, competition always helps – you strive to be better.
