UEFA has expressed serious concerns about the new financial rules for the English Premier League. Sport24.az reports that the continent's top football body believes the upcoming changes could significantly increase the economic gap between the English Premier League and other leagues on the continent.
From next season, English clubs will implement a cost control system that allows them to spend up to 85 percent of their revenue on their squads. In some cases, this limit can reach 115 percent. For comparison, UEFA has set a 70 percent limit for European club competitions under its regulations.
UEFA officials believe that such rules will direct the world's best players to England. The Premier League already controls a quarter of European football revenue. UEFA fears that clubs from other countries will take unwarranted financial risks to maintain competitiveness in the face of the English Premier League's growing power.
