"It would be better if we played in Gusar. They promised that the stadium would be ready next year."
These words were said by Rahid Amirguliyev, the president and captain of the First League representative "Shahdag Gusar", during his interview with gol.az. He expressed his views on the stadium problem in Gusar, the importance of regional clubs playing in the Premier League, and whether he will play as a football player next season.
We present that interview.
– In the 26th round of the First League, you drew with "Sabail" away. What can you say about the goalless match?
– We were fighting against a team playing for the championship. We wanted to win. If we had won this match, we would have had a chance to take third place before the last round. We did our best to win and make our fans happy. Unfortunately, it didn't work out.
– Since the stadium in Gusar is not ready, the team does not play its home games at its home ground. Will this problem be solved by the next season?
– It would be better if we played in Gusar. If so many fans come to Baku with difficulty, there would be 2–3 times more in Gusar. Football is for the fans. We would also like to play in Gusar, in front of our home fans. But unfortunately, there is a stadium problem. It will be difficult to finish it this year, but they promised that the stadium will be ready next year. We are also waiting.
– Will "Shahdag Gusar" be able to compete for the championship in the First League next season?
– We will discuss the goals after the championship ends. We would like this team to be in the Premier League. In general, not only "Shahdag", but also Lankaran and other regional clubs should be there. The more regional clubs there are, the better it is for the Premier League.
– Will we be able to see you on the green fields next season?
– I haven't decided yet. I will think and decide after the championship ends.
