"If 'Qarabağ' had not performed strongly in the Misli Premier League, 'Sabah' could have easily become champion, but there would not have been great development."
This was stated by Maqsud Adigozalov, the president of "Sabah".
The club president spoke about his team's first championship in the history of the Azerbaijan Premier League.
"We were expecting to become champions every year. Thank God, it was our fate this year. We have always wanted to be at the top in any field we are in. It's just that there is a time to achieve success. It is impossible to climb to the top suddenly. In the 8 years we have participated in the Premier League, we have been getting closer to the top step by step. I think that if we didn't have such a strong 'Qarabağ' in front of us, we would have developed late as a club. Our main rival has always been 'Qarabağ', which has achieved fantastic results. We tried to leave them behind and finally, we succeeded this year. If there was no strong 'Qarabağ' in the championship, maybe we would have won the championship easily, but there would not have been so much development," he said in an interview with report.az.
He stated that they want to perform successfully in European Cups this season:
"We want the best for ourselves. Of course, we would like to reach the main stage of the Champions League. But there are many factors here. We need to see who our opponents will be. Expectations are high from a winning team. We will try to meet the expectations of our fans."
M. Adigozalov also shared his thoughts on the final game of the Azerbaijan Cup with "Zira":
"No one knows if we will achieve a golden double this season. Of course, we really want to achieve this. We will do our best, we will fight. 'Zira' is also a very good team. I am sure that we will witness interesting football on the field."
