The President of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VFV), Stanislav Shevchenko, announced that the Russian men's volleyball team will voluntarily not participate in the 2027 World Championship.
Sport.Biz reports that the championship will be held in Poland from September 10-26, 2027.
"Regarding the 2027 World Championship in Poland, a decision was made to withdraw due to security concerns. We believe that this tournament will be very weak in sports terms and will have a strong political character", Shevchenko said.
The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has confirmed and accepted the position of the VFV.
It is worth noting that the Russian men's team has never won a world championship. The team's best achievement was a silver medal at the 2002 World Championship.
