Today, a meeting was held with the participation of the "Neftçi" management and head coach Samir Abasov. Sport24.az reports that the team's performance in the current season was discussed at the meeting.
It was stated that Samir Abasov has been given all kinds of support by the management since he signed the contract last October, including full authority in transfer activities and team building.
All 14 transfers carried out during the off-season and after the start of the season were carried out with the wish and approval of the head coach, including all decisions regarding the players leaving the team were made by the head coach.
When signing the contract, Samir Abasov was set a goal to demonstrate creative and attacking football, and to achieve the highest results in all tournaments in which the team participates.
However, neither the dynamics of the team's development nor its position in the tournament table have been satisfactory over the past 12 rounds. Although the head coach promised that the team would improve from game to game during the season, and that the players' form would reach its peak in November, a decrease in the quality of the game has been observed in recent matches. Only 3 wins in 12 games were not considered desirable, and the defeat in the match with "Imishli" was the culmination of the decline.
Taking into account Samir Abasov's services in "Neftçi" both as a player and as a coach, as well as his diligence in his pre-season activities, the club offered him to resign for the sake of professional ethics.
In turn, Samir Abasov disagreed with the arguments, claiming that the current results were not so bad, that the current failures were due to random factors, not directly related to his coaching activities, and said that the team would be in the top 3 at the end of the season. Refusing to resign, he stated that if the club terminates the contract with him unilaterally, he intends to demand full compensation.
Taking into account the above, "Neftçi" PFK dismissed Samir Abasov. Samir Abasov, who showed great determination and adhered to work ethics during his time at the club, was thanked for his services and wished success in his future career.
The search for a new head coach is currently ongoing. Sanan Gurbanov has been entrusted with preparing the team for the match against Turan Tovuz on November 28.
