Jude Bellingham, the star of Real Madrid and the England national football team, has stepped into the world of cricket. The 22-year-old footballer has acquired a minority stake in the Birmingham Phoenix cricket club.
Idman.Biz reports that Bellingham, originally from Birmingham, has bought a 1.2 percent stake in the club for approximately £800,000 (1,828,000 AZN). Currently, the main shareholder of the club remains Warwickshire County Cricket Club with 50.4 percent. The other 48.4 percent stake belongs to Knighthead Capital Management, which is also co-owned by NFL legend Tom Brady.
Speaking about his new investment, Bellingham linked this step with his love for his city. He stated that he feels he owes something to this city and the investment is a good way to pay off that debt. The footballer, who said that Birmingham is a place where everyone wishes each other success, considers himself lucky to have grown up here.
The star footballer stated that his interest in cricket started in his childhood. He emphasized that he often played cricket with his brother Cob Bellingham, and it was always accompanied by great competition. According to the footballer, regardless of whether they were playing Monopoly, football, or cricket, all childhood competitions ended in fights and tears.
It should be noted that the Birmingham Phoenix competes in "The Hundred" tournament, which was created in 2021. The team's global influence has increased rapidly since Tom Brady's arrival.
