The Malaysian football team "Johor Darul Ta'zim" has not lost in the national championship for five years.
Idman.Biz reports that the club has equaled the world record by finishing the Super League with a 108-game unbeaten streak. This indicator belonged to the "ASEC Mimosas" club of Ivory Coast since the last century. The African representative did not lose 108 games in the championship in 1989–1994.
"Johor Darul Ta'zim" has become the Malaysian champion for the 12th time in a row. The team won 23 of 24 games in the season, drew once and scored 117 goals. This means an average of approximately five goals per game.
The champion did not spare his opponent in the last round either. "Johor Darul Ta'zim" defeated "Kelantan TRW" with a score of 14:1, winning the biggest victory of the season.
The Malaysian giant lost the last time in the championship in April 2021. If he does not lose in the first round of the next season, "Johor Darul Ta'zim" will become the sole owner of the world record.
The club also set a historical record in away games. "Johor Darul Ta'zim" has not lost 85 away games in the championship since 2018.
One of the main reasons for this hegemony is the large financial resources and the club's transformation into a strong investment project in recent years. The "AS" publication writes that the project has been developed since 2013 under the leadership of Prince Tunku Ismail Idris, with serious investments in infrastructure, academy and management.
However, the club's total dominance in the domestic championship has not turned into the same level of sustained hegemony in the international arena. Although "Johor Darul Ta'zim" won the AFC Cup in 2015, it has not yet been able to secure a stable place among the main favorites in Asia's highest-level club tournament.
