Inter Miami has taken the first step to fill the gap in midfield after Sergio Busquets ended his career.
Idman.Biz reports that after their historic 2025 season, where they won the MLS Cup, club management moved quickly to maintain the team's competitiveness and transferred Argentine footballer David Ayala, a 23-year-old midfielder from Portland Timbers.
The contract will be valid until the end of 2026.
Ayala stands out with his passing, field vision, and technical control. These are the same qualities that were considered Sergio Busquets' main strengths. Statistical indicators also confirm this similarity: While Busquets averaged 59.2 accurate passes per game, Ayala completed this indicator with 47.2 passes at Portland Timbers, with 88 percent of his passes being accurate.
In addition, Inter Miami has strengthened its squad in other positions as well. Facundo Mura was transferred for the right flank, Sergio Reguilon and Brazilian Mikael for the defense. Canadian Dayne St. Clair, who was selected as the best goalkeeper of the 2025 MLS, was brought in for the goalkeeper position. The club aims to continue its dominance in the MLS in the 2026 season.
It should be noted that there are quite a few Argentine players in Inter Miami. Lionel Messi, Rodrigo de Paul, Gonzalo Lujan, Tomas Aviles, Oscar Ustari, Mateo Silvetti and Facundo Mura make up the team's Argentine group. In addition, head coach Javier Mascherano and several members of the coaching staff are also from Argentina.
