Thomas Tuchel has come under fire ahead of the match against Serbia in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Idman.biz reports that former Watford striker Troy Deeney has spoken harshly about the England manager's decision not to include Al Ahli player Ivan Toney in the squad.
Currently, the head coach has only two classic strikers at his disposal - Harry Kane and Ollie Watkins. Marcus Rashford and Jarrod Bowen can play as false forwards, but that is not enough for Deeney.
"The fact that he doesn't even mention Toney is frivolous and stupid. This means that England are going to the tournament with two, or at most three strikers if you count Liam Delap. If they fail, there is already an excuse: they will say that there were not enough strikers," the former footballer said.
England narrowly beat Andorra (2-0) at the weekend and their attack did not look convincing. Deeney believes Kane and Watkins need the support of a different type of striker to increase the team's chances of success.
Meanwhile, Ivan Toney continues to perform highly: 30 goals last season and five goals in four games this season. However, his participation in the World Cup application is in doubt. Tuchel's team will play an important match against Serbia on September 9.
