The main goal of holding the Azerbaijan Championship among teenagers was to identify potential chess players.
Nijat Mammadov, a participant of the last Azerbaijan Chess Championship and a coach-teacher, said this in his statement to "Report".
The expert evaluated the Azerbaijan Championship held among boys and girls aged 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 at the Ganja Sports Palace:
"This year, the Azerbaijan Championship was held for the first time according to the Swiss system. Our wish was that more young chess players would participate in the competition. We mainly wanted to identify potential chess players. This was one of the special instructions of the President of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, Mahir Mammadov. The goal is that Azerbaijani chess should not only be known in Baku and Sumgayit, but also spread to the regions. We especially believe that there are talented children in the regions. We think that we have achieved our goal to some extent. The organization of the competition was at a high level. Of course, we witnessed expected and unexpected results during the competition. The results obtained will give great experience to young chess players. I think they were also satisfied with this competition. The Azerbaijan Chess Federation proves that it is on the right track with the work it has done recently".
It should be noted that the chess players who won prizes in each age group were awarded diplomas and medals of the appropriate degree. The champions of Azerbaijan will be sent to the World Championship and the European Championship in 2026 in the corresponding age group, and the chess players who take 2nd place will be sent to the European Championship in 2026 in the corresponding age group. Chess players who take third place will be given financial support up to 2,000 manats to participate in a rated international competition.
