Azerbaijani grandmasters Aydin Suleymanli and Nijat Abasov have continued their winning streak at the individual European Championship held in Katowice, Poland, and are among the leaders of the tournament.
Idman.Biz reports that both chess players are among the leaders with three points, winning their third consecutive victory. They are in seventh and 10th place, respectively, according to additional indicators.
In the third round, Aydin Suleymanli won over his compatriot Riad Samadov. He will face Turkish Işık Can in the next round. Nijat Abasov defeated Ukrainian Svyatoslav Bazakutsa and will face his compatriot Roman Dekhtyarov in the upcoming round.
Khazar Babazade, Mahammad Muradli, Govhar Beydullayeva, and Shiroglan Talibov are in the group of pursuers with 2.5 points.
It should be noted that Govhar Beydullayeva, the only female representative among the Azerbaijani chess players participating in Katowice, won over Sheys Royal of England in the third round, whose rating is approximately 200 points higher than hers.
It is worth mentioning that the continental championship consists of 11 rounds, and in the end, the first 20 chess players will qualify for the 2027 World Cup.
