Azerbaijani grandmaster Aydın Suleymanli has entered the top ten at the individual European Chess Championship held in Katowice, Poland.
Idman.Biz reports that after five rounds, Suleymanli is sharing 7th-50th places with 4.5 points. According to additional indicators, he is in eighth place.
The chess player, who won three victories at the start, failed to win in the last two games. He drew with Işık Can (Turkey) and Cerceli Kantor (Hungary). Suleymanli will face Samir Sahidi (Slovakia) in the sixth round.
At the same time, Nijat Abasov and Riad Samadov also scored 4 points each and, according to additional indicators, are in 21st and 29th places, respectively. It should be noted that Suleymanli and Abasov are the only Azerbaijani chess players who have not suffered a defeat in this tournament.
Other representatives, Muhammad Muradli (68th place), Shahin Veliyev (83rd place) and Vugar Manafov (97th place) scored 3.5 points.
After five rounds, chess players representing Spain, Armenia, Italy, Turkey, France and Iceland are in the leading group. They share 1st-6th places with 4.5 points.
It should be reminded that a total of 11 rounds will be held in the European Championship, and the top 20 chess players will qualify for the World Cup to be held in 2027.
